ABOUT THE COURSES

Built from real work, not theory

Practical, self-paced training for the people who handle conflict, complaints and difficult conversations at work. Each course is a 60 minute recording you can watch in your own time, drawn from Shiv Martin's work across government, regulatory, workplace and community settings. The courses fall into two groups, one for leaders and HR teams and one for dispute resolution and complaints practitioners, with a couple that serve both. Every course is practical rather than theoretical, and comes with a PDF handout of tips and prompts you can use in your next conversation.

THE COLLECTION

Six courses, two audiences

Two are built for leaders and HR teams, two for complaints and dispute resolution practitioners, and two serve both. Every course is a 60 minute recording with a course guide.

TWO COURSES

For leaders and HR teams

Raising issues early and choosing the right response.

LEADERS AND HR

Performance Conversations with Confidence

Lead performance discussions and one-on-ones with more clarity and structure, and address issues while they are still small and workable.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Most managers do not avoid performance conversations because they do not care. They avoid them because they are not sure how to raise the issue fairly. This course gives them the language and structure to do it well.

Who it is for: Managers, team leaders, HR and workplace relations staff, supervisors and business owners.

LEADERS AND HR

Managing Workplace Conflict Early and Well

Recognise workplace conflict early, understand what is driving it, and choose the right response before it escalates.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
By the time conflict reaches HR it usually has history, and people are responding to the delay as much as the original issue. This course helps you step in earlier and match the response to the problem.

Who it is for: Leaders, managers, HR and workplace relations staff, supervisors and business owners.

60 minutes · course guide · $180 incl. GST

TWO COURSES FOR EVERY ROLE

For both

Skills every role needs when emotion runs high.

BOTH AUDIENCES

De-escalation Skills for Difficult Conversations

Stay calm under pressure, respond to strong emotion without absorbing it, and set clear boundaries when a conversation heats up.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Staying steady when someone is angry with you is a skill, not a personality trait. This course gives you practical ways to de-escalate without either over-explaining or shutting down.

Who it is for: Complaints and customer-facing staff, managers, HR, health and frontline teams, and dispute resolution practitioners.

BOTH AUDIENCES

Trauma-Informed Dispute Resolution

Understand how trauma affects communication, behaviour and trust, and respond with both care and containment while holding a clear process.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
When someone becomes distressed or reacts strongly to a small step, it is easy to read that as difficult behaviour when something else is happening. This course helps you respond safely without losing the process.

Who it is for: Mediators, conciliators, complaints handlers, HR, investigators, leaders and customer-facing staff.

TWO COURSES

For complaints and dispute resolution practitioners

Running fair processes with confidence.

PRACTITIONERS

Introduction to Conciliation

Understand what conciliation is, how it differs from mediation, and how to run it with confidence in complaints and regulatory settings.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Much of the difficulty in conciliation comes from role uncertainty. This course makes clear where your role begins and ends, so you can work with more confidence.

Who it is for: Conciliators, complaints and case staff, ombudsman, tribunal and regulatory officers, and public sector teams.

PRACTITIONERS

Early Resolution Skills for Complaints and Case Management

Strengthen the listening, clarifying and process skills that resolve concerns early, fairly and efficiently.

THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Many complaints escalate not because of the original issue, but because of how the first few contacts were handled. Strong early resolution skills prevent that and ease pressure on review pathways.

Who it is for: Complaints officers, case managers, intake and review staff, ombudsman and regulatory teams, and public sector professionals.
