Why Community Conflict Skills Matter
Community organisations do extraordinary work, often with limited
resources and enormous expectations. But unresolved conflict, difficult
conversations and cultural misunderstandings can silently drain energy,
damage relationships and stall important work.
Across Brisbane and South East Queensland, I’ve seen community groups, volunteer committees, multicultural associations, disability support networks and not-for-profits struggle to manage internal tensions simply because they haven’t been given the right tools. Lack of communication skills doesn’t just create frustration, it prevents organisations from delivering the support, advocacy and connection their communities rely on. This is why I offer free, in-person community conflict resolution workshops, ensuring that groups who need the support the most are not left behind.
With more than 15 years’ experience as a mediator, conciliator, lawyer and conflict resolution trainer, Shiv has supported thousands of people across government, community and workplace settings.
Some of the most impactful work she has done has been with grassroots groups, sporting clubs, women’s support organisations, disability advocates, cultural associations and volunteer-run community services.
These organisations often carry huge responsibility but have limited budgets. Many cannot access paid mediation or professional training, even when conflict is putting their mission at risk.
This initiative is Shiv's contribution back to the community. If your organisation is helping others, then Shiv is here to help you.
